How It All Began
HireOrNoHire.com began as a way for a mother to help her daughter prepare for face-to-face job interviews--- without nagging.
R. L. Polhill had seen and heard it all as a Staffing, Recruiting and Human Resources professional, and unfortunately, personally experienced job interview jitters in her own job searches J. Shortly after deciding to launch a niche job board,NoStateIncomeTaxJobs.com, her thoughts turned to the job seekers who would submit their resumes to the new website. She remembered how her friends and family, some considered seasoned professionals, would call her and ask advice about what they could expect during their face-to-face job interview.
Ronda felt fear and anxiety were problems for many job seekers before their face to face job interview. She wondered how she could help everyone prepare for the job interview and decided to look for resources she could put on the new start-up job board to assist job seekers.
She researched and observed the following:
· although there are a few places offering help for job seekers individually, there aren’t many web sites that help them as a group.
· there weren’t many places that allowed job seekers to help each other as a group.
· there are even fewer resources that allowed job seekers to see their entire job interview presentation (answers and mannerisms) and receive constructive feedback…all totally 100% free for the job seeker.
Polhill knew she did not want to start “just another social networking” web site. She felt the need to create something different. Her goal was to create a “network that services socially.” Specifically, a service that supported job seekers in what they wanted to do: to get and give pre- face to face job interview tips and information to help them and their fellow job seekers in a life changing way.
Then her own daughter went to her and shared her job interview jitters.
Ronda, as a mother, would remind (perhaps nag at times) all of her children to enunciate, stand up straight, look a person in the eyes…yada yada yada. She wanted to help her daughter with constructive tips and feedback. So she decided to videotape her daughter answering questions. Her daughter was able to see for herself her strengths and what she needed to work on without feeling like her mother was ‘picking on her’ . She was also able to see that she needed to be aware of her body language during the face-to-face job interview.
And so, HireOrNoHire.com was born!
HireOrNoHire.com uses video sharing technology and pools knowledge from the community to help you. Although you may initially come to the web site to get information to help yourself, everyone has some knowledge and or experience about something they can contribute to help someone else. For this reason, you are encouraged to actively participate and engage with other job seekers. It is your video community--- as a service.
You are given control over how and from whom you receive help: from peers, experts, public or private. So it’s ok to let your guard down and use this service to practice, practice, practice .
